British native Smax Smith, former European Top Fuel Champion, is set to return to the driver’s seat of the Leverich Racing Top Fuel Dragster at State Capitol Raceway March 6-8 for the inaugural IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals. Smith, a well-known and flamboyant character on the European scene for many years, now lives in Ontario, Canada. He will be joining forces with the Michigan-based Leverich group this season and he and the team are setting their sights on a successful 2009 campaign.

“I’m looking forward to racing with the Leverich team again this year, and I’m especially looking forward to the season opener in Baton Rouge,” Smith said. “This is a good team with good, committed people, and I think we’ll put on a great show for the IHRA fans everywhere we go this year.”
